Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. She served on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
